The Oxford Advanced Management Programme
New mindsets for the 21st Century
Taught over four weeks, participants are
equipped with the insights, knowledge, tools
and frameworks required to achieve success
at the highest levels of management:
Global insights
Week one provides an opportunity to look
outwards at the changing world. Whether it
is the world economy, globalisation, the
impact of new technologies, demographics,
diversity, cultures or societal values, the
programme addresses the following questions
“What situations and prospects are we
facing?’ and ‘What should we do about it?’
You are encouraged to make more sense of
current and possible vistas, aided greatly
by the diversity of the international
experiences and views of fellow
participants.
Organisational challenges
Week two encourages you to review the role
of your organisation in light of the
challenges and opportunities examined in
week one. Functional areas of the
organisation such as marketing, finance,
operations all information and knowledge
management are reviewed as well as issues of
organisational structures and processes. The
central focus here is on ways by which the
organisation can seek both efficiency and
innovation.
The leader in you
Week three concentrates on you; on
leadership over many levels and how to get
things done through other people, whether
that is through orchestrating change,
optimising human resources and teamwork, or
in driving operational efficiency. You will
engage in a variety of activities to gauge
your own motivations and capabilities as
well as your interpersonal skills. Aspects
of organisational cultures and the impact of
leadership styles and behaviours are
explored, as well as ways in which
organisational cultures can be harmonised
with strategy to support strategic intent
and help the strategy to succeed. The role
and responsibilities of Board members will
also be considered.
Creating your future
Using the insights gained in the preceding
weeks you now question what you are going to
initiate upon returning to work. What will
you do differently upon their return to the
organisation? What will you seek to display,
to explore, and to persuade your colleagues
to adopt? What, in short, are you going to
do and how are you going to do it? In the
final week, you will develop intentions,
draw up action plans, make resolutions and
be encouraged to make professional
commitments to enhance your ongoing personal
development process. As well, you will look
towards the future, towards the major
challenges we face – climate change and
bio-technology and its impact, for instance
– and deliberate and discuss how these
issues can be confronted.
